Another trip of Luke and his gf to the pottery plant. We are now into the process of having a sample to check if the quality of the end-product will be good. Here is what Luke reported:

"I would like to bring you up to date on the terracotta garden lamps. The sample from our garden was picked up and delivered to Korat on the 25th of September. As you will see from the file photos this was very important because the sizing of what is available from Korat and our original lamps it very different. The discussion being the size and thickness of the material of the original lamps, material type and more critically kiln firing temperatures and firing time.

You will see from the file photos that completely new lamp has to be designed, base and upper bowl.

I was informed that the new lamp was under manufacturer and in a couple of days possibly ready for kiln firing (this will be without coloring). The sizing of the lamp has presented them with a slight problem due to the thickness of the material and the size of the lamp. New kiln temperatures and kiln time have to be established for correct firing. (The Kiln is large enough to accommodate the new sizes)

You will see that the sizes are very different. Regardless the work is under way now. My girlfriend is monitoring this continuously and I have requested a picture of the completed new lamp (prior to kiln firing) along side out original lamp. (This will be without coloring) for the moment.

Possibly next week the new lamp will make its way to the kiln. After the lamp is completed (sometime next month) it will be picked up from Korat and delivered to Thabali."

We are now waiting for the sample to be delivered and tested in our garden. Probably it will be by the end of October.
